Beijing Hyundai 2nd plant starts production
Beijing Hyundai, a joint automaker between Beijing Auto and Korean Hyundai Motors announced earlier this week that its second plant will start trial operations by the end of this year.
The new plant covers a total area of 1,150,000 square meters. Currently, the plant is in the middle of machinery installation and debugging. Once completed, new Elantra and Coupe will be assembled in this facility
The company also said its second engine-making facility has already started trial operation. The second engine facility is designed to put out 200,000 engines by 2008, which means Beijing Hyundai’s total engine production will reach 500,000 units by 2008.
Beijing Hyundai had experienced a fast growing period over the past years. However, the company sales volume began to decline in 2007 as a result of lacking new models and insufficient production capacity. The construction of second plant will dramatically increase the company’s production capacity.
