SUVs and Mini push BMW sales
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the world’s largest maker of luxury cars, said sales increased 20 percent last month as customers bought new versions of the X5 sport-utility vehicle and the Mini.
Deliveries rose to 123,017 cars and SUVs in July from 102,475 a year earlier, the Munich-based company said in a statement yesterday.
BMW-brand sales increased 20 percent to 104,096 vehicles, while Mini sales jumped 19 percent to 18,838 cars, Bloomberg News reported. The company delivered 83 Rolls-Royce super-luxury cars compared with 51 a year ago.
BMW introduced the X5 and Mini at the end of last year. The company expects sales to reach a record of at least 1.4 million vehicles this year, Chief Executive Officer Norbert Reithofer said earlier this month.
The car maker overtook DaimlerChrysler AG’s Mercedes division as the world’s biggest luxury-car maker two years ago.
