Passenger Vehicle Consumption in Top 10 Chinese Cities
Passenger vehicle registrations reached 447,772 in July 2007, a year-on-year increase of 42.2%, with all body types showing significant growth during this month. SUV models showed the highest increase with a year-on-year growth of 95.3%, while sedan model sales grew by 42.9%. Hatchback models, which have performed poorly in previous months, also increased 42.6% compared to the same period last year.
Top 10 cities grow steadily
With the rapid development of the automotive industry in mainland China, certain cities account for a bigger share of the passenger vehicle market than others. While the top 10 cities have maintained their position since 2005, their total market share has continued to decrease. Beijing is much higher in registrations than other cities in the list, while the other nine cities were similar in market share. Guangzhou has continued to rise in the ranking in the last two years, while Tianjin has dropped in the ranking for the second year in a row.
