New Delhi - To cater to the growing demand of the diesel car market in the country, Hyundai Motors India Ltd (HMIL) has launched a diesel variant of its recently introduced hatchback Getz Prime. It would compete with Maruti Suzuki’s Swift diesel, which is priced between Rs 4.73 lakh and Rs 5.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Getz Prime diesel variant, which has been priced at Rs 5,69,900 (ex-showroom Delhi), has a 1.5-litre engine with a common rail direct injection turbo charged engine. It will be available across the country after the first week of October.

Hyundai had in April this year launched Getz Prime in 1.1-litre and 1.3-litre petrol engines.

“Following the success of Getz Prime in India, we have decided to add another variant to the range to provide the much needed economy to some of our customers travelling long distance everyday,” said Mr H.S. Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL, in a statement.

The company that has exported 13,668 units of Getz Prime so far to European countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany and Greece, expects the number to go up to 24,000 units in the current year. The company also plans to enter into newer markets such as South Africa, Israel and Turkey with this model.

HMIL said that after its second plant becomes operational, India would become the main hub for sourcing Getz Prime in accordance with its strategy to make the country a hub for small car exports.
