In Chinese SUV market, women buyers is a fast growing power

Shanghai, November 12, (Gasgoo.com)-While women account for a record  30.9% of the China’s total car population in 2006, their tastes for vehicles are changing too. More and more Chinese women turn to SUVs, a vehicle segement that has been long dominated by men, Chinese newspaper reported.
 
"Women Tiggo buyers account for 18% last year, but the figure has risen to 22% through October this year," said Zhang Meina, sales manager of Chery Automobile's local division in Shannxi province. "We expect that the growing number of women SUV buyers will affect the market," she added.
 
Chery Tiggo, the second best selling SUV in China is Chinese women's most favorite option. Following Chery Tiggo, Hyundai SantaFe, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Grand Cherokee are also popular among women car buyers.
 
In 2006, women account for 10.35% of all SUV buyers in China. In contrast, the number was 7 percent a year earlier, according to a report posted on www.chinasuv4x4.com, a Chinese SUV website. The report said that the percentage is still growing.
 
The report also revealed that safety is a priority factor that women would consider when it comes to buying a new car. Chinese women SUV buyers also pay much attention on the vehicle design and color.
 
Another survey shows female car buyers climb from 20.3% in 2002 to 30.9% in 2006.
