Shanghai. November 14 (Gasgoo.com) - Chinese diesel engine manufacturer Yuchai International has announced that it has developed a hybrid powertrain for buses in cooperation with Shanghai Jiaotong University.

The parallel hybrid powertrain includes a four-quadrant motor and control system, a power source management system, and control systems, hooked up to a four-cylinder diesel engine.

Dr Bing Zuo, deputy director of Yuchai Institute of Engineering, said in a statement that it had passed its initial in-vehicle tests, and that it offers similar acceleration with the four-cylinder engine when compared to a six-cylinder diesel engine, but reduces fuel consumption by almost 20%.

Chinese automakers are becoming increasingly interested in solutions that can reduce or avoid gasoline (petrol) and diesel consumption. The Yuchai-developed powertrain has such an advantage in urban environments where vehicles typically run at lower speeds, and with frequent braking and acceleration.
