Shanghai, November 22, (Gasgoo.com)-Mitsubishi Motors displayed 12 vehicles at the 2007 Guangzhou Motor Show, half of which are sport utility vehicles. The Japanese automaker, dwarfed by Toyota, Honda and Nissan in China, vows to win more Chinese consumers by introducing more SUV models.

Outlander EX with 2.4L and 3.0L engines, Pajero with an all new 3.8L MIVEC engine will be imported to China this winter, Osamu Masuko, president of Mitsubishi announced at the auto show. He added that the company would add more models to the lineup of its joint venture with Southeast Motor.

Galant, Space Wagon, Grandis, Pajero and Outlander have been locally produced in Mitsubishi's two joint ventures in China. Mitsubishi SUVs--Pajero and Outlander sell better than sedans like Lancer and Galant in China. Industrial figures show that SUVs led the growth in all segments in the Chinese market with a year-on-year increase of 63.7% over the first ten months this year.

Katsuragi, Mitsubishi's north Asia general manager told Wall Street Journal that the company's "near-term" sales goal in China is about 130,000 vehicles a year, with some 20,000 imports from Japan and the remainder produced by joint ventures with Hunan Changfeng Motor Co and Southeast (Fujian) Motor Co.
