Shanghai. November 28 (Gasgoo.com) –China asks government and party officials to take the lead in using local brand cars, according to an administrative notice posted on the web site of Government Offices Administration of State Council.
The notice asks government and party officials to take the lead in using fuel-saving and environmental friendly local brand vehicles. "Government and Party officials are not allowed to use SUV vehicles in principle," the notice said.
In 1999, Chinese government issued restrictive guidelines on government-use cars, which restricts the maximum displacement of luxury cars to 3.0 Liters and maximum price to 450,000 yuan ($60,800).
As luxury cars are becoming cheaper, more and more luxury cars find their into government and party officials.
Chinese newspaper, Beijing News reported that in China's underdeveloped Southwestern region, a county Communist party official drives a 600,000 yuan ($81,000) luxury SUV vehicle-- in 2006, the annual income per capita in that region averages is far below $1,000.
