Shanghai. December 25 (Gasgoo.com) – PSA hatchback Peugeot 207 will be locally produced in China by the end of 2008, but the hatchback model will be changed into a sedan model in China, Beijing News reported today.
Peugeot 207 will be based on Peugeot 206’s chassis and technological platform, but it will retain body design features of the original Peugeot 207, the report said.
The new model will share the same production line and same engine models with Peugeot 206. It will be powered a 1.4 liter engine or a 1.6 liter engine. And it will be priced at a range of RMB 80,000 ($10,861) to RMB 100,000 ($13,576).
Peugeot 207 to be produced in China will target A0 segment market and it will compete with Honda City, Chevrolet Lova and Kia Rio.
After Peugeot 207 starts local production next year, Dongfeng PSA, the joint venture automaker between PSA Peugeot Citroen and its Chinese partner Dongfeng Motors, will be able to produce hatchback 206, 307 and sedan model 207,307, the report said.
In the first 11 months of the year, Dongfeng PSA sold 55,395 Peugeot 307 vehicles, up 21.1 percent from one year earlier and 25,713 Peugeot 206 vehicles, down 3.7 percent from one year earlier.
Last year, Peugeot’s two models, the 307 and 206, represent 40.4 percent of PSA’s sales in China, five of Citroen’s models, Fukang, Elysee, Xsara, Picasso, C2 and C-Triomphe accounted for the rest.
