Shanghai. January 11 (Gasgoo.com) - Chinese automaker Youngman Automobile Group and United Kingdom automaker Lotus will jointly launch first race car RCR in Beijing yesterday, Chinese official media Xinhua News Agency said.

The vehicle is priced at priced between $17,800-20,500, the report said.

"We aimed to sell 30,000 units of RCRs this year," said Cui Wei, deputy president of Youngman Auto, adding that the company will first import the completely built-up vehicles and later start assembling the completely-knocked-down or CKD kits.

RCR is based on Gen.2, a car model of Malaysian automaker Proton, owner of Lotus Cars. Youngman and Lotus invested more than 2 billion Yuan (around $275 million) and three years developing the model which has been upgraded to cater for the Chinese consumers.

There are four options of the 1.6-liter RCR cars and the price range is between 129,800 Yuan to 149,800 Yuan ($17,834-$20,582). The sports car will compete with Citroen C4 and Opel Astra, in Chinese market, obviously more affordable than the latter.

In July last year, Youngman Auto signed an agreement with Proton, under which Proton will offer the Zhejiang-based automaker its products and technology. And the state-owned Proton, which has long been in financial difficulties, will have chance to tap the fast-growing Chinese market.
