Shanghai, January 16, (Gasgoo.com) – the first batch of 30 hybrid diesel-electric buses employing Eaton Corp's commercially-viable hybrid power system went into commercial operation in Guangzhou on January 14, local media reported today.
The 30 hybrid buses were developed jointly by Eaton Corp, the Fortune 500 listed company and Beiqi Foton Bus Company, one of the leading commercial vehicle manufacturers in China. These Euro-V-standard buses could save up to 30 percent fuel compared with conventional buses, along with a 25 percent reduction in particulate and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
Delivery of the 30 hybrid buses is "a significant milestone" for Eaton, said Kevin Beaty, general manager of hybrid power business unit in Eaton's Truck Group. He deemed this as an opportunity to tap the emerging market as Beijing is now taking active efforts on environmental protection.
Eaton's hybrid power system was first introduced to China in 2006, when Beiqi Foton brought two prototype buses using Eaton's technology for road testing.
"We'll add more hybrid vehicles to our fleet and make good use of clean energy," said Zhuang Weixiong, chairman of Guangzhou’s First Public Transit Company, China's third largest city bus company, which bought the 30 hybrid buses.
Eaton entered China in 1993. The Ohio-based company is a diversified industrial manufacturer, advanced in several fields including intelligent truck powertrain systems for safety and fuel economy; automotive engine air management systems, powertrain solutions and specialty controls for performance, fuel economy and safety.
