Shanghai. January 28 (Gasgoo.com) - German luxury automaker Audi plans to introduce three models into Chinese market this year. Audi R8, A5 will be imported to China in January and March and redesigned A4 will be locally produced and launched by the end of this year, Cheshi.com.cn reported today.
Audi’s smaller vehicle Audi A5, however, will not be introduced until 2009, the report said.
Audi R8 sports car, priced at 1.78 million yuan ($246,890), went on sale in Chinese market on January 17. While Audi A5, priced at 700,000 yuan ($96,220) to 850,000 yuan ($113,863), will go on sale in March this year.
Audi R8 sports car will be equipped with V10 engine similar to Lamborghini Gallardo, and it accelerates to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds. The A5 model will come with a 3.2L six-cylinder engine and accelerate to 62 mph in 8.4 seconds. The new generation Audi A4 will come with five engine options, including 1.8L TFSI, 2.7LV6, 2.0L TDI, 3.0L TDI and 3.2L FSI.
Last year Audi sales in China, including Hong Kong, rose 25 percent to a record 101,996 vehicles, making China the largest market for Audi outside of Germany.
Currently Audi A4 and A6 are only two models locally produced in China.
