Shanghai. February 13 (Gasgoo.com) – Mercedes-Benz’s compact SUV GLK will come to Beijing Auto Show in April and will probably be locally produce in China in 2009, Chinese auto industry web Qiche.com.cn reported today today.
Designed to compete with BMW X3 and Audi Q5, the compact Mercedes-Benz SUV is scheduled to go on sale this fall in Europe and early next year in North America and China, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz GLK is an all-new compact SUV.
Built on the same chassis as the compact
C-Class sedan, the GLK shows a wheelbase and overall length similar to the C-Class, Edmunds.com said. This should put the GLK in line with other entry-level luxury sport-utilities like the
BMW X3 and
Land Rover LR2.
The GLK is expected to use a 270-horsepower 3.5-liter Mercedes V6 along with standard all-wheel drive and Mercedes' seven-speed automatic transmission, but the low-profile tires with oversize wheels indicate the GLK won't be tackling any mountainous terrain.
