Shanghai. February 15 (Gasgoo.com) - German luxury car makers Benz, BMW and Audi are planning to launch a couple of new SUV models in Chinese market this year or next year in a bid to grab bigger market share there.
Audi Q5, a compact SUV, will first be displayed at this year's Geneva auto show and then go on sale by mid-2008. A rival to the BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander and forthcoming Mercedes MLK, Audi Q5 is based on the same platform as the A5 coupé and next-generation A4.
Audi Q5 will share the engine with the A4 and A6 families, and will be powered by a base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a 3.2-liter, 255-hp V-6 engine or a 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine.
After the Q5 goes on sale, Audi will follow up with the smaller and sportier Q3. A new 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder will power the Q3. Also a 3.0L turbocharged diesel engine and a 3.6L V6 FSI engine may also be used to power Q3.
