The five provinces are Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui and Jiangxi. Among them, the passenger vehicles consumption grew over 30 percent in Henan, Hunan provinces in the past two years and over 40 percent in Anhui province last year.

Mid-end passenger vehicles lead automobile consumptions growth in Hunan and Hubei provinces, the report said. These two provinces experienced little changes in luxury and high end vehicle consumption over the past two years, but they witnessed a significant decline in compact cars and mini-vehicles.

In 2004, these five provinces take 10.5 percent of China's total passenger vehicles consumption, but the number rose to 12.7 percent by 2007.
