Chery A5 hybrid to be mass-produced after Summer Olympics

Shanghai, April 3 (Gasgoo.com) Chery Automobile is set to mass-produce its A5 hybrid vehicles right after Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, Beijing-based Jinhua Newspaper reported.

"A5 hybrid will be sold at prices between RMB100,000 and RMB200,000, higher-priced than the basic A5 series," said Yang Hongze, deputy general manager of Chery Automobile Sales Co Ltd.

Chery A5 is now sold between RMB69,800 ($9,950) and RMB93,800 in the Chinese market.

According to earlier media reports, Chery will offer 50 of the 80 vehicles to be used for Olympic transportation services in August this year. Of the 50 vehicles, 40 Chery BSG hybrids and 10 Chery ISG hybrids will be used to ferry athletes and spectators during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The Chery A5 hybrid version to be launched after the world event will combine the hybrid technologies of both models.
