Delphi increases wiring harness capacity in China

From Automotive News China| April 14 , 2008 10:56 BJT

Delphi is rapidly increasing its wiring harness capacity, according to Automotive News. Delphi told the trade publication that the expansion is in response to the rapid expansion of automakers in the country, with around 60 new models expected in 2008.

Having already relocated one facility to a larger plant in Changchun, Jilin Province, and having opened a new plant in Anting of Shanghai at the end of last year that will produce 1 million harnesses annually, the Delphi Packard Electrical Systems Co. will open a third plant in Wuhan of Hubei Province.

As vehicles built and sold in China increase in sophistication, wiring harnesses will need to become increasingly complex to deal with the new technology, an area in which component suppliers such as Delphi have great experience. The U.S.-based supplier continues to prosper in the country despite its Chapter 11 woes at home, and this will no doubt continue as demand for vehicles rises in the future.
