China's Chery eyes Americas expansion

BEIJING, April 20 (Reuters) - Chery Automobile Co, China's fourth largest car maker plans to start selling its cars into the Americas soon, but any launch into the U.S. market is still some years off, the company's chairman said on Sunday.

Speaking at the Beijing Auto Show, Chairman Yin Tongyao said Chery would begin selling its A1 compact car to South America this year, followed by Canada.

Yin said his company was still in talks with Chrysler LLC [CBS.UL] to expand their production alliance into a full fledged joint venture and expected to see some positive results from the talks soon.

Chery and Chrysler, majority ownned by Cerberus Capital Management LP, finalised a deal in July 2007 with Chrysler LLC to make compact cars under the Chrysler badge for sale in the United States and elsewhere.
