Local brands account for 1/3 of all vehicles at Auto China 2008

Shanghai, April 25 (Gasgoo.com)  At  the ongoing Auto China 2008 (the Beijing auto show), homegrown automakers have displayed about 270 vehicles, which represents almost one third of the total 890 vehicles on display at the event.

China's third largest auto group Dongfeng Motor Co showcases 31 built-up vehicles, 19 of which are own-brand models; FAW displays a dozen of self-developed models, including TFC-H1, Red Flag SUV, Besturn B50 and an unnamed minivan; SAIC displays Roewe and MG together during the show.

Chery Automobile has hit a record by showing 29 models of six splendid brand series at the show, and 12 of them are making their world debut; Geely presents a complete range of sedans, SVVs and MPVs totaling 23 units. Other domestic OEMs including Beijing Auto, Changan, Jianghuai and Great Wall also show off their own brand vehicles.

Currently own-brand vehicles hold a 60% share of China's auto market, while vehicles built by joint ventures and imported cars account for 40%. Specifically, local brands account for a 95% share of China's commercial vehicle market and 26% of its sedan market, respectively.
