Camry is Q1 top seller of mid- to high-end sedans
Shanghai, May 6 (Gasgoo.com) Statistics from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) show that in the first quarter of this year, Toyota's Camry remained to be the top seller of medium- to high-end sedans in mainland China, closely followed by the eighth generation of Guangzhou Honda's Accord, which is only 5,000 units behind Camry's sales figure.
In 2008, Guangzhou Toyota aims to sell 175,000 Camry sedans, while Guangzhou Honda's plans to sell 178,000 Accord cars. The small difference of 3,000 units has drawn much media prediction as to which one of them will become the sales champion of the medium- to high-end sedans in China this year. Honda's Accord sold 21,068 units in March and reclaimed its spot as the best-selling full-sized sedan in China that month, after losing out to Toyota's Camry (which sold 16,532 units in March) for more than a year.
A total of 1,374,200 sedans were sold in mainland China in the first quarter of 2008. The top ten sedan brands by sales in the January-March period are Santana, Jetta, Excelle, Chery QQ, Elentra, Corolla, Camry, Xiali, Accord and Focus. The top five sedan makers in terms of sales in the period are FAW VW, Shanghai VW, Shanghai GM, Chery, and FAW Toyota, followed by Dongfeng Nissan and Geely which rank sixth and seventh.
