Shanghai, May 6 (Gasgoo.com) Nissan recently took wraps off its conceptual Pivo2 electric car in Beijing soon after the 2008 Beijing auto show (April 20-28). The global carmaker has plans to start mass production of its Pivo2 electric concept car in California in 2010, and China will be the largest market for the Nissan electric cars like Pivo2.

At the recent Beijing auto show, Nissan's CEO Carlos Ghosn said that the Chinese market is making big strides to catch up with the U.S market and all kinds of new auto power-trains are very important to China. Different from other Japanese brands in the Chinese market, Nissan will produce electric cars, rather than hybrid cars, in China for the real zero-emission.

The Pivo2 takes the idea of a zero-emission urban commuter vehicle. It employs a Robotic Agent that serves to connect the car and driver, engendering feelings of affection and trust. With its 360-degree revolving cabin, its front door is accessible from any direction. Its Metamo (variable steering geometry) System not only enhances convenience, it also contributes to improved dynamic performance and safety.

Nissan will start to produce its electric cars in California in 2010, and will put the electric cars onto the mass market in Japan in 2012. At the same time, the latest Nissan electric cars will be introduced to China. "In the next five years, much more cars will be running on the Chinese roads, and this urges Nissan to speed up the development of electric cars in this country," said Ghosn.

2008 is a crucial year for Nissan's growth in China. The launch of its several new car models and the expansion of its sales network have laid a solid foundation for its future sales and services. Dongfeng Nissan will launch another new model later this year and bring the number of its car models to eight.

Nissan revealed the new Nissan Teana premium sedan and the Infiniti EX luxury sport crossover at the 2008 Beijing auto show. The new Nissan Teana is seen as a decisive product for Nissan to win a larger market in China.
