Chery export surges 68.8% in Jan-Apr to 52,100 cars

Shanghai, May 27 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile posted a 68.8 percent growth in vehicle exports during the first four months, China's news agency Xinhua reported yesterday.

The Wuhu-based company exported a total of 52,100 vehicles from January to April this year, accounting for 38.1 percent of its sales in the period. The export value reached 2.3 billion yuan ($333 million), up 81.7 percent from the same period last year.

To date, Chery has exported cars to 69 countries and regions worldwide. It is ambitious to enter another 15 countries in Central America and the Caribbean region this year.

Chery vehicle sales are forecast to reach a record 480,000 units this year, after rising 24.8 percent year on year to 381,000 units in 2007. The company remained the country's fourth largest automobile seller in 2007.
