From Jiji Press| June 03 , 2008 09:45 BJT

Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday that it has established a facility in the Chinese province of Hebei to train afforestation specialists and provide information on tackling desertification in the country.

The 21st Century Greater Beijing Afforestation Center was jointly set up by Toyota and its partners in an afforestation project that it started in 2001.

The partners include the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hebei Province and a Tokyo-based nonprofit organization called Green Earth Center.

The new facility will be used to conduct research and surveys, act as a base for afforestation volunteers and provide environmental education to the public.

Toyota has provided a total of 450 million yen to support the project, including construction costs for the center, it said.
