Lamborghini to triple its China sales this year
Shanghai, June 3 (Gasgoo.com) The Italian exotic-carmaker Lamborghini, part of the Volkswagen Group and controlled by Audi, has started to triple the sales of its world-class luxury sports cars in the fast-growing Chinese market.
At the 2008 Beijing auto show, Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that China provides an extremely strong opportunity for market growth and the Italian carmaker has an objective to triple its annual sales to 100 units in China this year. (Lamborghini deliveries worldwide increased by over 15% to 2,406 units in 2007.) Lamborghini is developing its dealer network in China with highly professional and committed partners to meet the ever-increasing demand for the Lamborghini brand.
Over the past few years, Lamborghini has marketed its complete portfolio in China, including the Gallardo and the Murcielago. In China, the Gallardo is now available in two models, selling for 2,980,000 yuan ($430,000) and 3,380,000 yuan respectively, and the Murcielago sells for 4,980,000 yuan. Chinese customers can pay a 30% deposit in Lamborghini dealerships for ordering them cars or models of other configurations and colors, and can pick up the car in four months. Chinese dealers said that more than 20 orders have been placed recently for the multi-million-yuan luxury car.
Lamborghini currently operates three dealerships in China: in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, plus a further franchised outlet in Hong Kong where sales are also set to double in 2008. Lamborghini opened its first Chinese showroom in Beijing in November 2004 in the city center's prestigious Oriental Plaza, moving to new facilities in the Regent Hotel a year ago.
First unveiled at Geneva show in March 2008, the new Lamborghini Gallardo Coupé LP560-4 made its Asian debut at the 2008 Beijing auto show in April. The new car replaces the original Gallardo Coupé first launched in 2003. With increased power to 560 hp, the restyled Gallardo is going on sale in China and worldwide this summer.
