China's April auto imports up 58.68% year-on-year
Shanghai, June 6 (Gasgoo.com) In April, China totally imported 37,700 motor vehicles, down 7.19% month-on-month (m/m) but up 58.68% year on year (y/y), and the total volume of import reached $1.374 billion, down 6.32% from March, but up 76.91% over one year earlier, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said on Thursday.
With respect to different categories, minivans made prominent performance in import in April, but the imports of sedans and SUVs (sport utility vehicles) went down that month. The imports included 14,222 sedans, down 2.64% m/m but up 38.44% y/y, 3,166 minivans, up 16.1% m/m or 78.17% y/y, and 18,574 SUVs, down 13.65% from March but up 74.39% y/y. The imports of the three vehicle categories represent 95.49% of China's total auto imports in April.
China exported 71,000 motor vehicles in April, up 6.56% m/m and 69.46 percent y/y. The total import and export value amounted to $5.1 billion and $15.78 billion respectively in the first fourth months of 2008, up 88.29% and 41.26% over the same period of 2007.
