Shanghai, June 13 (Gasgoo.com) About 29.7% of consumers planning to have cars within a year will consider buying subcompact cars, according to a recent survey by Sinotrust.

The market share of subcompact cars may increase in 2008 after a five-straight-year drop, reports Beijing Daily. The latest survey by Sinotrust showed that about 29.7% of consumers intending to have cars within a year will consider buying subcompact cars, up 12% from the 2007 market share of subcompact cars in the country.

Soaring oil price and the upcoming fuel tax are possibly the main reasons why consumers turn to smaller cars. Low-emission cars are more economical than bigger cars.
