Honda China

Honda Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. is the Honda's Regional Headquarters in China, and responsible for the investment activities for Honda-related businesses in China, e.g. the import and distribution of automobiles and service parts.  Honda currently has two partners in complete vehicle production in China known as Dongfeng Honda and Guangzhou Honda

Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company Limited was established in Wuhan on July 16, 2003 as a joint venture between Dongfeng Automobile Company and Honda with each holding an equity interest of 50%. 

With a total investment of US$386,200,000, the Company currently occupies a total area of 375,200 square meters and currently has a staff of 1011 persons (with 12 Japanese expatriates serving as department heads or higher positions), of whom, 65% are university or technical secondary school graduates.  The staff, averaged out to be around 27 years old, embodies an intellectual and forwarding look energized young team. The first phase of the project primarily covers welding workshop, coating workshop, engine assembly line, general assembly line, inspection line and test drive runway. The welding shop is of high flexibility, adaptable for randomized mix-up production of various models. The primary welding jig is automated with a six-joint robot which is uniquely Honda.  The general assembly line is divided into 65 working posts, Honda’s advanced technologies are used for this assembly line by using functional modules and mix-up production of various models.  The line will achieve a high efficiency of one car in 5.5 minutes.  The test drive runway is shaped like a telephone receiver, with a circumference of nearly 2km, allowing a maximum speed of 140KM/h.  The design of the runway has taken into account all possible special road conditions and it is designed in such a way that the overall performance of the vehicle included its smoothness, noise level, comfort level, braking, stable handling is assessed.   
 
The Company has introduced Honda CR-V, with a first Phase annual production capacity of 30,000 units.  Honda technical standards are strictly followed in the manufacturing, test and inspection process in keeping with Honda quality requirements. The model comes in 2.0L/2.4L equipped with an uniquely Honda i-VTEC technology, real time four wheel drive and automatic transmission.  As a sporty multifunctional vehicle, CR-V has won the hearts of buyers both home and abroad with its comfort, adaptability, leisurely features, flexibility, elegance and sporty exterior design as well as its reasonable pricing. 

Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd was established on July 1st, 1998, by Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. with 50:50 investment proportion for a period of 30 years. The company currently has two plants, covering a land area of approximately 1.6 million square meters, and employs around 5,100 staffs. So far it is holding 4 brands of cars: Accord, Odyssey, Fit and City.
• In June, 2000, Guangzhou Honda passed the ISO9002 Quality System certification.
• In October, 2001, Guangzhou Honda passed the certification of the ISO14001 Environment Management System.
• In January, 2005, Guangzhou Honda passed the certification of ISO18000 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

Guangzhou Honda kept on developing rapidly in accordance with "less input, faster output, and rolling development" mode. To satisfy the growing customers' demands, Guangzhou Honda has been extending its production-line in step with the market. After attaining the capacity of 30,000 cars/year, 60,000 cars/year and 120,000 cars/year, finally at the beginning of 2004, Guangzhou Honda started a new period of producing 240,000 cars per year, and 1,000 cars per day. 

In November, 2004, the 2nd plant laid a foundation in Xintang, Zengcheng City, near Guangzhou. The company invested RMB 2.2 billion in the first phase development of the plant, which enabled a beginning production capacity of 120,000 cars per year. With the 2nd plant going into operation in late 2006, Guangzhou Honda will greatly improve supply speed and satisfy the market demand. At the same time, the annual capacity will reach 360,000 cars.

The company has been rapidly increasing annual output and sales year by year ever since its establishment. In 2005, Guangzhou Honda achieved an annual output of 230,000 cars, a 13.9% increase than that of 2004; it has occupied 7.4% of domestic market share. Meanwhile, it achieved an income of 36 billion RMB income, which was 9.1% higher than that of 2004.

Its goal for 2006 is to reach 260,000 cars output. During the 7 years of development, Guangzhou Honda has been providing the market with more than 700,000 satisfying cars.
