The Nanjing division of leading Chinese car-making group Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group) (SAIC)  launched its self-developed brand new product MG3SW on June 23, 2008.

MG3SW is billed as an "In-series Crossover Vehicle", targeting young urban customers. It is an A0-class two-compartment sedan model and has Volkswagen Polo and Peugeot 206 as its rivals.

The car was the first self-developed brand product of Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corp. after the company was merged by SAIC. The R&D efforts on new products of MG brand accelerated as the companies integrated.

Apart from R&D work in the domestic market, SAIC is picking up the construction of a production base in the UK. The MG factory in the UK is expected to resume production of TF sports cars this August, which will hit the UK market in September in small batch.

The MG brand, which will be an important part of SAIC's proprietary brand program, will be developed into a high-value-added individualistic sports sedan brand.
