VW Add New Classic Projects with Traditional Ones’ Cut

VW has surprised insiders by cancelling “Night of VW” during the 14th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition, which made people to guess what happened about the automaker.

VW has had excellent performance in Chinese and global markets with a net profit of 2.337 billion in the third quarter of 2016. Its sales in October also kept increasing steadily, which has been the NO.1 in Chinese market. So, Why did VW cancel its traditional project? As Dr. Feng Sihan, CEO of VW China, pointed out that “Today’s VW will become a brand new VW”.

Dr Feng Sihan revealed that, “Our vehicles will achieve electrification, automation and interconnection of overall, bringing unique and visualized experience for consumers……I.D. will became one of the important vehicles among VW’s new products line and a large-scale SUV, a sedan and a crossover SUV will also be included.”

It is reported that VW is to release a brand new products line of electric vehicles, built based on VW’s MEB electric car platform and including about 10 new models, in Chinese market during 2020 to 2025. I.D., the brand conception car, will give its debut to Asia on this year’s Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition. I.D. is a zero-emission vehicle driving by electricity with a motor power of 125kW and a 400-600km driving mileage per charge. As the first A-class Crossover wagon of VW, the C-TREK also adds to FAW-VW’s products line.

While Teramont, a seven-seat one, is the first large-scale SUV of SAIC-VW with a length of 5039mm, a width of 1989mm and a height of 1773mm. Its wheel base achieved 2980mm. Besides, Teramont  carried the new 2.5T V6 engine and a 7-speed DSG with a maximum power of 300hp and a  maximum torque of 500Nm.

VW plans to introduce about 7 domestic new energy vehicles in China by 2020, including plug-in hybrid vehicles and electric ones.

The cancel of “Night of VW” is seemed by the editor as an embodiment of sustainable development. “New energy”, “Intelligent”, and “Internet+” are expected to be new labels of VW.
