Former president of Volvo Cars China R&D joins NIO

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Monday, it is reported that Dr. Feng Shen, former president of Volvo Cars China R&D and president of China Operations for Polestar, has joined the electric vehicle start-up NIO as quality vice president and the chairman of quality steering committee.

A NIO worker said that Dr. Shen has appeared in NIO’s office building. He will be in charge of the overall quality management in NIO and will report to Mr. William Li, chairman and founder of NIO.

Before Shen’s joining, NIO’s product R&D, quality management and manufacturing management teams have attracted many industry veterans, such as the company’s cofounder Zheng Xiancong and its manufacturing vice president Jiang Ping.

Before Dr. Shen became a member of NIO, he is already a quality-master with 6-Sigma black belt when he was working for Ford. In 2010, he joined Volvo Cars and played a leading role in the establishment of the company’s R&D center in China. In 2016, Dr. Shen began to serve as global CTO of Polestar, a brand under Volvo and was responsible for the R&D, procurement, manufacturing, quality and IT businesses of Polestar. In 2017, after Polestar’s independent operation, Dr. Shen was nominated as global CTO and CEO China of Polestar.

On December 16, NIO officially launched its first mass-produced model, ES8, which will be delivered from the first half of next year. As a result, the coming several months will be of great significance to the production of the model.
