GM China annual sales exceed 4 million for the first time in 2017

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Thursday, General Motors China announced its China sales results. The automaker said that it delivered over 4 million vehicles in China in 2017 (including those of its joint ventures), setting another record high and increasing 4.4 percent from a year earlier.

Last year, GM China sales totaled 4,040,789 units and China has been the American automaker’s largest retail market for six consecutive years. Among all brands, Cadillac, Buick and Baojun all reached all-time highs.

The company owes its sales performance to the improved product portfolio. In 2017, GM introduced 18 new and refreshed models to China market. It has achieved a robust performance across segments, especially in SUV, whose annual sales in China surged 37 percent in 2017.

Cadillac, the luxury brand under GM, sold 175,489 vehicles in 2017, jumping 51 percent year on year. Buick remained GM’s best-selling brand in China with a sales volume of 1.18 million vehicles last year. Chevrolet China sales were up 4.2 percent year on year to 547,561 units.

In 2017, Baojun sold 996,629 vehicles to the Chinese customers, surging 45 percent from a year earlier. In the mini-commercial vehicle segment, Wuling delivered nearly 1.14 million units.

In its sales performance announcement, GM also said that Super Cruise driver assist technology reached the final stage of feature verification in China with local partners and will soon be available in the domestic market.
