Nissan China sales grows 13.1 percent in January

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Nissan Motor handed over 135,037 vehicles in January in China, growing 13.1 percent from a year earlier, according to the automaker’s announcement. The volume includes the sales of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles.

Last month, the passenger vehicle sales of Dongfeng Motor Company Limited, including Dongfeng Nissan and Dongfeng Venucia, set a new high for January sales. The sales of Nissan’s passenger vehicles totaled 115,313 units last month, up 7.5 percent year on year.

Out of the volume, Dong Venucia sales were 17,011 units, jumping 21.8 percent compared with the same period of last year. Among all passenger vehicle models, Sylphy achieved the highest growth rate, 55.4 percent while its SUV sales increase 26.2 percent from a year earlier to 42,142 units. The sales of X-TRAIL were 19,188 units, nearly half of the total SUV sales.

Nissan announced in the statement that along with its joint venture in China, it aims to sell 1.6 million vehicles in China this year, up 5.3 percent from the 1.52 million they sold last year but much slower than the growth rate of 12.2 percent of 2017.

However, sources told Reuters that the joint venture has its internal goal. The automaker eyes to sell well over 1.6 million vehicles in China this year. “We want to deliver at least 1.7 million vehicles.”
