Nine leaders from automakers elected as deputy to 13th NPC
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- A total of 2,980 deputies to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, has been elected. Among them, there are many deputies from China's auto enterprises. It may indicate that the reform of stated-owned auto enterprises will become a hot topic to be discussed during two sessions (NPC and CPPCC) this year.
Hereby, the reporter lists 9 deputies who are core leaders of their auto companies.
From the list, four of them became the deputy of NPC for the first time. They are Xu Liuping, Party Secretary and Chairman of FAW Group Corporation (FAW Group), Yin Tongyue, Party Secretary and Chairman of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. (Chery Auto), Zhu Huarong, President of Chongqing Changan Automobile Co.,Ltd (Changan Auto) and Li Shufu, Chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely).
Among these four entrants, Li Shufu is the only deputy who comes from non-state-owned enterprise. Recently, Geely has become the largest single shareholder of German automotive manufacturer Daimler. This was another big move after it became the owner of Swedish automaker Volvo Cars and the largest shareholder of the commercial vehicle manufacturer Volvo Trucks.
Xu Liuping, taking the helm as FAW Group's chairman in September last year, set off a big reform within the group which involved a number of aspects, like organizational structure and human resources, etc. Meanwhile, he announced that the group will concentrate its resources on supporting its Hongqi brand and products.
Chery Auto, led by Yin Tongyue, also had frequent actions recently. In December, 2017, Chery announced that the company had reached a strategic agreement with Baoneng Group in terms of investing in Qoros. In addition, Chery transfered its 51% of stakes in Cowin Auto to Yibin Auto Industry Development Investment Co., Ltd and Sichuang Yibin PUSH Group Co., Ltd.
Both Chen Hong and Zeng Qinghong, have been elected as deputy to NPC for three times. SAIC Motor and GAC Group both had outstanding performances in self-owned PV sales. According to relevant statistics, the sales of SAIC Motor's self-owned PV brands surpassed 520,000 units in 2017, surging 62% year on year. Besides, GAC Group delivered a total of 509,000 vehicles under its self-owned PV marques, leaping 36.7% from a year earlier.
