Borgward’s 100,000th model rolls off production line
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The Borgward BXi7 officially rolled off the production line at the brand’s Miyun plant in Beijing on June 28, 2018, marking a significant milestone as the plant has manufactured 100,000 vehicles.
Starting construction in 2013 and officially beginning production in 2015, the Miyun plant reaches an annual production capacity of 150,000 units in its first phase. In the future, the plant’s production capacity can reach 360,000 units annually after its second phase project starts production.
Borgward unveiled the electric model BXi7 as new energy vehicles become increasingly popular in China. Positioned as a mid-size SUV, the BXi7 provides two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions as options. The model generates a maximum output of 242hp and a peak torque of 390Nm. Its combined range reaches 308km. Also, it sprints from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds and boasts a speed up to 195km/h.
The BXi7 is priced (before the subsidy) between RMB 358,800 and RMB 378,800. Borgward also made a promise that consumers can get a price compensation if the model’s price sees any reduction within 365 days since it was sold.
Also, Foton Motor announced to increase capital of Beijing Borgward Automotive Co.,Ltd with an additional investment of RMB 4.409 billion on June 27, which means Foton Motor will still hold 100% stake in Borgward after the capital increase completes. Borgward, attaches great importance to the Chinese market. The brand decided to earn Chinese market share first with the mid-size SUV BX7 followed by the Borgward BX5, a compact SUV, and the BX6, a young consumer-oriented model.
