SAIC VW again crowned China’s champion PV maker by selling 2.065 million vehicles in 2018

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Volkswagen (SAIC VW) reported an annual sales volume of 2,065,077 vehicles in 2018, the fourth year in a row becoming the champion PV maker in China. The yearly sales of Volkswagen brand and Skoda were around 1,713,000 units and 352,000 units respectively.

In 2018, SAIC VW's Volkswagen brand was still the sales champion topping other single PV brands in China from the previous year. Noticeably, its SUV sales evidently grew 16.1% over the previous year to around 542,000 units on an annual basis despite the country's overall SUV sales downturn.

To be specific, the sales of the Tiguan and Teramont reached some 303,400 units and 86,200 units. Out of that, the Tiguan was again crowned as the champion in terms of joint-venture SUV model's sales. A total of 24,873 Tharu SUVs were sold last year after it hit the market at the end of October.

The Lavida family had an annual sales volume of 503,825 units, among which the all-new Lavida's sales amounted to around 166,200 units. The 2018 sales of the Passat and the Phideon were 179,028 units and 24,471 units, jumping 12.2% and 80.5% year on year respectively.

Skoda achieved a year-on-year sales increase of 5.7% in 2018. Its SUV sales skyrocketed 189.5% over the year-over period to 127,552 units. The Kodiaq saw its annual sales climb 13.9% to around 51,200 units. The Karoq and Kamiq, both newly launched in 2018, contributed sales volumes of 31,071 units and 37,143 units respectively.
