Top 10 locally-produced PV, car, SUV models in China by August wholesale volume
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese automakers sold 1,648,283 PVs (merely including locally-produced cars, MPVs, SUVs and minibuses) in August, a year-on-year decrease of 8%, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Year-to-date PV wholesale volume of the country slide 12.1% from the previous year to 13,339,453 units.
The Vehicle Inventory Alert Index (VIA) published by the China Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) reached at 59.4% in August, a month-on-month decline of 2.8 percentage points, while up by 7.2 percentage points. This was the 20th-month-in-a-row exceeding an official warning threshold.
There were eight car models among the top 10 PV models by August wholesale volume. The Haval H6 was the only SUV model that entered the top 10 list, while still posted a year-on-year sales downturn.
Car models
China's car wholesale volume fell 12.5% over the prior-year to 785,651 units in August. Year-to-date car sales amounted to 6,487,516 units, representing a double digit drop of 12.5% as well.
The Sylphy was crowned the best-selling car model by August wholesale volume for the first time in 2019. The all-new Sylphy went on sale in July, while the existing Sylphy has been still sold simultaneously.

The Corolla no longer appeared in the top 10 car model list, but fell to the 21th. In August, only 11,666 Corolla cars were sold with a year-on-year plunge of 59.7%. The launching of the all-new Corolla should be blamed for its sales slump since relatively few cars were currently prepared. We will wait to see how the new model performs in coming days.
Compared with July, the Levin moved up 1 place to the sixth. Its all-new model just hit the market in May, thus we have the reason to look forward to a future rising performance over the all-new Corolla.
August sales volume of the Accord rose 15.9%, versus the 38.2% and 35.3% year-over-year jump in July and June sales.
The Geely Emgrand moved up to the 10th place, but its sale growth still remained negative.
SUV models
A total of 737,471 SUVs were sold in August across China, down by 0.9% from the year-ago period. For the first eight months, China's SUV sales dipped 9.6% to 5,770,640 units.

By the end of August, the Haval H6 had gained the honor of the hottest-selling SUV model for 75 months in total.
The Tiguan came back to the runner-up place in August, while its monthly sales were still less than 20,000 units.
The Jetour X70 and the BYD Song were new entrants on the top 10 SUV model list. Particularly, the sales volume of the BYD Song skyrocketed 316.1% boosted by the fresh energy from the all-new Song Pro.
