Baidu sets up joint intelligent transportation laboratory
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, Baidu Maps established a joint laboratory for intelligent transportation with nine research institutes and universities, aiming to drive joint innovation and upgrade the level of smart transportation through sharing the data.

According to the Chinese map provider, it has had 1.8 million registered developers and served more than 500,000 mobile applications up to now. The average daily requests for location services have exceeded 120 billion with an average daily track up to 2 billion kilometers.
It is reported that the first batch of members include the Research Institute of Highway (RIOH) under the Ministry of Transportation (MOT), the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (CAUPD), the Transport Planning and Research Institute (TPRI). Tsinghua University, Southeast University and North China University of Technology are also among them.
Wang Xiaojing, chairman of the China Intelligent Transportation System Industry Alliance (C-ITS), said “By virtue of its data and technologies, Baidu Maps is well-positioned to optimize mobility services, innovate diversified sharing platforms, and provide technical support for building a transportation power.”
Meanwhile, the map provider released the ecological panorama of the new-generation artificial intelligence (AI) map. Based on Baidu’s AI technologies and data capacity in the map field, Baidu Maps will supply global developers with eight application capabilities of intelligent positioning, route planning, navigation, road condition services, map image services, track services, location search services and mini programs.
