Changan Automobile’s Jan.-Feb. sales slide 34.8% year on year

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chongqing Changan Automobile Co.,Ltd (Changan Automobile) said its Feb. auto sales slumped 73.7% from a year ago, versus the 79.1% decrease in China's overall sales announced by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

It is not strange to see that all subsidiaries suffered substantial sales slide amid the coronavirus outbreak. Notably, Changan Ford was the least-hit one with a decrease of 39.9%, a pretty low level compared to most of OEMs in the country. The Sino-U.S. joint venture achieved growth in Jan. and last Dec. after a long-lasting downturn between 2018 and 2019. Thus, the relatively small base number protected it from be tremendously hit.

For the first two months, Changan Automobile saw its auto sales significantly shrank 34.8% year on year to 163,341 units. The sales of Changan's locally-born brand stood at 124,063 units, including 94,118 PVs. It is worth noting again that the YoY decline in Changan Ford's sales only reached 9.7%.

During the tough February, automakers on this land spared no efforts to combat against the coronavirus epidemic. Apart from the RMB10 million of cash donation, Changan Automobile leveraged its merits and resources in vehicle production, logistics and mobility services to offer favors to the battle lines.

Changan said its subsidiary Jiangling Motors transported two negative pressure ambulances to Wuhan as early as Feb. 1, and to-day has delivered a total of 1,400 ambulances. Besides, Kaicheng, a CV marque of Changan Automobile, has so far received 287 ambulances of orders.

In early Feb., the automaker joined hands with Changan Minsheng APLL Logistics Co., Ltd., a third-party automobile logistics provider 25.44% owned by China Chang'an Automobile Group, to delivered urgently needed medical supplies, such as mask and disinfectants, to Chongqing, Nanjing and Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital.

Its new energy unit, Changan New Energy Automobile, has teamed up with T3 Mobility and Chelai Travel to provide the frontline medical staff with free mobility services.
