Jaguar, Land Rover boast MoM growth in China for 4 straight months

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported that its retail sales in China amounted to 23,726 units for the second quarter of the year, only edging down 2.5% over a year ago thanks to the efficient prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first half of the year, there were 35,880 consumers in China taking delivery of Jaguar- and Land Rover-branded vehicles, a year-on-year slump of 21.5%.

As of June, both Jaguar and Land Rover have achieved month-over-month growth in China deliveries for four consecutive months. Their combined volume in June rose 10% compared to May.

Land Rover represented a robust upward movement, said JLR. In June, the sales of Range Rover skyrocketed 108% from the previous year, of which the volume of the Range Rover Sport jumped nearly 30%. Moreover, the sales of both Range Rover Velar and the new Discovery Sport hitting the market in March showed month-over-month increase for the fourth month in a row.

As for the Jaguar brand, the second-quarter sales of the XFL leapt 22% over the prior-year period. Both XEL and E-PACE posted sales growth for four straight months as well.

The all-new Land Rover Defender made its China's debut on June 16 with its presale price announced at the same time. Last month, the automaker has received orders of 2,000 units from the worldwide market. It is set to hit the market in July at the Chengdu Motor Show 2020.

JLR has been gradually resuming its global businesses in the second quarter. Except the plant in Castle Bromwich, UK, the other plants have gotten themselves up and running again as of today. In addition, over 95% dealers worldwide have resumed operations from the time being.
