Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC NE, the NEV arm of GAC Group, is ready to launch its third-generation all-electric vehicle platform, which may be named “GEP (GAC Electric Platform) 3.0”, the automaker recently revealed at the TMC 2020, the annual biggest gathering in Transmission and Drive Community in China.

There will be three all-new models built on the yet-to-be-launched platform, which are likely to be a small-sized/compact intelligent SUV, a mid-/full-sized sedan, and a mid-/full-sized SUV or MPV, GAC NE disclosed in the meantime. The future roll-out of these new models will make the EV manufacturer cover most BEV segments in China.

The automaker has not unveiled when the new platform will be launched.

GAC NE launched in 2017 the first-generation BEV platform, the GEP 1.0, on which the Trumpchi GE3 is built. The platform has currently advanced into the 2.0 stage, where the Aion series models are based on. Compared to the earliest version, the GEP 2.0 boasts more progresses in technologies, such as the “three-in-one” integrated electric drive system and high-density ternary-lithium battery pack.

According to GAC Group, GAC NE witnessed its July sales precipitously rise 49.03% year on year to 5,076 units. Despite the overall downturn in China's NEV market, the GAC-owned EV manufacturer still scored a blooming growth of 80% with 25,780 vehicles sold in total.

GAC NE said on July 30 via its WeChat account that it has become China's first automaker that simultaneously agreed cooperation with two state-owned electric utility monopolies—State Grid and China Southern Power Grid (CSG)—on plug-and-play charging service and preferential policy of charging services.

The collaboration will make GAC NE offer the plug-and-play charging and non-inductive payment services to users in China's key cities. To be specific, the services will allow a NEV to be charged without any human intervention. The whole charging process includes the activation and termination of the service, the order generation and the payment can be conducted automatically, so that the connectivity and efficient interaction among vehicles, charging stations, power grids and energy will be achieved.
