Toyota, Honda, Nissan China sales rise in Nov., Mazda falls

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In November, Toyota, Honda and Nissan all sustained rising movement in their China sales volume, while Mazda posted a double-digit decline.

Speaking of year-to-date sales, Honda's China business attained its first-time increase for the past ten months.

Toyota's China sales jump 16.7% year on year in Nov.

Toyota's China monthly sales reached 177,700 units in November, jumping 16.7% from the previous year largely thanks to the rising demands of the Avalon sedans and Lexus premium cars, according to Kyodo's report. 

As of November, Toyota's China business has posted year-on-year sales growth for eight straight months. Due to the prolonged upward movement, the automaker gained a 10.3% growth in year-to-date sales.

At the Auto Guangzhou 2020, the Japanese carmaker unveiled two heavyweight models, namely the Lingshang and the Allion produced by GAC Toyota and FAW-Toyota respectively. They retain much of the design seen on the well-received Corolla and Levin, while their wheelbases are 50mm longer than that of the two classic models.

Lexus saw its China sales rise 6.8% from a year earlier to 20,632 units, including 7,472 electrified vehicles. The premium car brand put the new LS onto the market at the Guangzhou motor show, coming with five trim levels in total.

Toyota aims to achieve an 8.6% year-on-year increase in 2020 by selling 1.76 million vehicles (including Lexus' vehicles) in the world's biggest auto market. During the first eleven months, the automaker has completed 91.8% of the goal.

Honda's China year-to-date deliveries edge up 0.5% as of Nov.

With 171,308 new vehicles delivered, Honda scored an impressive growth of 22.1% last month for its China business. As of Nov., the Japanese automaker had achieved year-on-year growth in China deliveries for five consecutive months.

Thanks to the incessant growth, the Jan.-Nov. deliveries edged up 0.5% from a year earlier to 1,418,124 units, representing growth for the first time after January.

Both GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda gained their best-ever Nov. deliveries last month. The joint venture with GAC Group saw its sales leap 24.5% over a year ago to 85,985 units. There were five models from GAC Honda, namely, the Accord, the Breeze, the Vezel, the Crider and the Fit, whose respective Nov. deliveries all exceeded 10,000 units.

Dongfeng Honda attained 19.8% increase in Nov. by delivering 85,323 vehicles. The joint venture has three models—the CR-V, the Civic and the XR-V—whose monthly deliveries all topped 10,000 units. Notably, both the CR-V and the Civic had a sales volume surpassing 20,000 units.

According to Honda, the China deliveries of its hybrid models amounted to 21,932 units in November, achieving an all-time high monthly sales level.

Nissan says China sales climb 5.2% over a year ago

Nissan's China sales rose 5.2% year on year to 156,319 units (including imported vehicles) last month. By the end of Nov., the carmaker has sold 1,287,821 new vehicles in China so far this year, a year-over-year decline of 6.6%.

In Nov., the PV business unit of Dongfeng Motor Company Limited (DFL) attained an 8.2% year-on-year growth by selling 135,816 vehicles. Dongfeng Nissan's sales grew 10.3% from a year ago to 126,609 units, hitting its highest-ever Nov. sales and achieving year-over-year increase for eight straight months.

Both sedan and SUV sales sustained growth for Dongfeng Nissan. In Nov., the sales of the seven-generation Altima, the Sylphy and the Tiida reached 13,643 units (+32.1% YoY), 65,098 units (+23.3% YoY) and 7,283 units (+13.2% YoY) respectively. Both the Altima and theSylphy achieved their all-time high Nov. sales volumes.

The joint venture saw the Nov. sales of Nissan-branded SUVs amounted to 39,920 units, including 17,932 X-Trails (+3.6% MoM) and 17,263 Qashqais.

Mazda's China deliveries drop 5.7% year on year on Nov.

Mazda's China deliveries reached 18,727 units in Nov., sliding 13.4% from a year ago and dipping 4.8% from the previous month.

The slide in overall auto sales entirely stemmed from the plunge confronting FAW-Mazda. Last month, the joint venture with FAW Group saw its sales slump 39.6% to 5,448 units. However, Changan Mazda still recorded a 5.3% year-on-year rise with 13,279 new vehicles sold.

In the Jan.-Nov. period, Mazda handed over 191,737 vehicles to consumers in China, a year-on-year decline of 5.7%. To be specific, the deliveries of FAW-Mazda and Changan Mazda were 69,331 units (-14.4% YoY) and 122,406 units (+0.1% YoY).

The Mazda3 Axela was still the hottest-seller in Nov. with its sales exceeding 10,000 units. The sales of the Mazda CX-4 reached 4,846 units, 671 units more than that of the Mazda6 Atenza.
