Shanghai to newly build 10,000 public charging piles in 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Shanghai plans to newly deploy 10,000 public charging piles, 15 pilot taxi charging stations and 10 demonstration zones for sharing charging poles in 2021, according to a document from Shanghai municipal government.

“By the end of Nov. 2020, Shanghai has built roughly 385,000 units of EV charging and battery swapping facilities by the end of November 2020, including 62,000 charging piles for public services and 43,000 dedicated piles”, Wang Dajun, Deputy Director of Science, Technology & Information Division, Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, said at the China International Swapping Battery Mode Industry Forum 2020.

Besides, there had been 20 battery swapping stations in Shanghai by last Nov., and the ratio of electric vehicles (EVs) to charging piles was 0.8:1, Mr. Wang added.

He noted Shanghai is hammering out a new implementation plan on the development of new energy vehicle (NEV) industry according to the national strategic deployment. NEVs were expected to be basically popularized across the fields like bus, taxi, logistics distribution in downtown areas, postal service and governmental car in Shanghai by 2025. Meanwhile, 80% of sanitation vehicles would be NEVs, and NEVs would account for over 50% of the new private car sales.

To fulfill the aforementioned goal, Shanghai was quickening the deployment of EV charging and battery swapping facilities, striving to newly launch 300,000 units of such facilities by 2025, said Wang.

“We are working on reinforce the construction of charging facilities and the implementation of relevant policies to improve the charging supporting capability and service. Both charging and battery swapping are energy replenishment models for EVs,” said Mr. Wang.
