Hongqi achieves best-ever monthly sales in Jan. 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- FAW Group's premium brand Hongqi said its monthly sales hit a new high of 32,500 units in January 2020, soaring 158% from a year earlier.

The upscale brand defied China's overall downward trend last year to report vigorous growth. Its full-year sales doubled over the previous year to 200,338 units in 2020. Besides, the automaker also completed its 200,000-unit annual production target 11 days ahead of schedule.

Hongqi's sales hike significantly linked to its improvement in product matrix. Hitting the market in May 2020, the HS5 SUV has become a main sales contributor to Hongqi with its monthly sales standing at around 10,000 units.

The Hongqi H9 full-sized sedan, which went on sale in last August, caught the eye of many consumers as well. Its cumulative sales surpassed 130,000 units last year.

According to a media outlet, Japanese customers have already ordered 5 H9s, and the first 3 of them would arrive in Japan on February 1 for certifying and display purpose. Once passes its certification, Hongqi H9 will officially be sold in Japan in late March.

The H9 has already exported to South Korea and United Arab Emirates.

The brand continues to strengthen its onslaught into new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The E-HS9 hit the market in Dec. 2020 and is highly recognized by consumers with its classy exterior, futuristic interior and decent range.

Hongqi will reportedly put the E-QM5 all-electric sedan onto the market in the second half of 2021.

FAW Group said in early January 2020 that 21 new models would be launched in the next five years under its premium brand Hongqi, with annual sales expected to reach 700,000-800,000 units by 2025.

Xu Liuping, chairman of FAW Group, noted that 18 of the 21 new models would be new energy vehicles.

Mr. Xu also noted Hongqi would strive to fulfill an annual sales target of 400,000 units in 2021.
