The new company, dubbed Guangdong Qianshun Mobility Technology Co.,Ltd., involves a registered capital of 25 million yuan ($3.857 million) and is 25% indirectly controlled by GAC Aion. Its business scope extends to cover the operation of ride-hailing service, the research and development of ICV (intelligent-connected vehicle)-related technologies, and car rental service.
GAC Aion announced on May 17 the strategic cooperation with DiDi Autonomous Driving for the joint development of a fire new driverless new energy vehicle (NEV) model for “large-scale commercial applications to accelerate mass production”.
Under the agreement, a joint venture is likely to be founded for the development of intelligent vehicles. DiDi will contribute its research and development capabilities in hardware and software, while GAC Aion will offer its know-how in car design & manufacturing and autonomous car platform. According to DiDi's press release, the duo will work together on a drive-by-wire system, sensors for the self-driving system, and system integration.
GAC Aion is among the automakers who are vigorously pushing ahead with the validation and market launch of the vehicles that can perform Level 3 and above self-driving functions in specific scenarios. The company launched last year the Aion LX capable of Level 3 autonomous driving thanks to the ADiGO3.0 autopilot system. Besides, the production model armed with the ADiGO 4.0 system is expected to hit the roads next year.
