Top 10 locally-made car, SUV models in China by June wholesales

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The wholesale volume of China's locally-produced PVs (referring to cars, MPVs, SUVs, and minibuses) dropped 10.4% from a year ago to 1.556 million units in June 2021, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Four segments all logged year-on-year decline in June wholesales. The CPCA's data show that the SUV wholesale volume fell 8.5% to 734 thousand units, while it was still 7 thousand units more than car sales, which shrank 10.7% compared to the year-ago period.

Despite the decline in overall PV sales, the wholesales of new energy PVs still rocketed 165.7% from the previous year to 227,000 units. The CPCA said in May China's annual new energy PV wholesales were expected to hit 2.4 million units this year, rising from the 2 million-unit forecast made in February. The current robust upward movement indicates that the final annual sales may be even higher than the revised predication.

Among the top 10 China-built PV models by June wholesales, there were six car and four SUV models. The top 3 models were all cars.

Four models among the top 10 car models by June wholesales recorded year-on-year drop. Of them, the Sylphy, the Lavida, and the Bora all posted double-digit decline. With a 60.6% growth, the Levin was the fastest-growing one.

The Sylphy still grabbed the No.1 spot among car models in June, for the third month in a row taking this honor. Compared to May, the Lavida dropped five spots to the seventh.

The Hongguang MINIEV and the Model 3 were the only two with all-electric versions for sales. Meanwhile, the MINIEV was also the only one from Chinese indigenous brands.

Notably, there were two premium models—the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A6L—entering the top 10 cars list, ranking ninth and tenth respectively.

Among the top 10 SUV models by June wholesales, there were also five models recording year-over-year decrease. The first three spots were still occupied by the Haval H6, the CS75, and the Boyue. The occupants of the No.4 to No.7 spots were all from Japanese brands.

As the only luxury model on the list, the BMW X3 ranked ninth among SUVs last month. As of June, the BMW-branded model entered the top 10 SUV ranking for three consecutive months.
