Production model of GWM’s HAVAL XY concept named HAVAL Shenshou

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Great Wall Motor (GWM) announced on Monday the mass-produced version of the HAVAL XY, a HAVAL-branded flagship SUV concept vehicle unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2021, is officially named HAVAL Shenshou (meaning “mythical beast”). The new production model will make its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show 2021 in late August.

GWM said the HAVAL XY adopts "super time and space sharp aesthetics" to capture inspiration from time and space and the starry sky, which shows the aesthetic design integrating the eternity and the future, and carries the mission of conveying HAVAL China's future view and aesthetic standard. Above the unmistakable grille, a LED light strip runs across the front end to accentuate the vehicle's width, serving as the concept's most eye-catching design detail. The roof is rather low, making for a low and strong stance.

According to the patent images from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the production car looks 99.9% the same as the concept. It measures 4,780mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,675mm tall. The 2,800-mm wheelbase indicates a large longitudinal space.

Riding on GWM's L.E.M.O.N. modular platform, the Shenshou will be armed with GWM's Coffee Intelligence system for infotainment, using the Qualcomm 8155 chip.

According to the MIIT's data, the Shenshou will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, which is good for 135kW and 220 N·m. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. According to earlier reports, the new model is also ready for a version fitted with the "L.E.M.O.N. DHT" system, GWM's highly integrated, multi-mode petrol-electric hybrid system.
