Car and City: July 2021 registrations of XPeng models

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In July 2021, a total of 7,706 consumers in China bought insurance for XPeng's new vehicles, according to the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC). In terms of July registrations of China-built vehicles, the Guangzhou-based EV startup ranked 10th among new energy vehicle (NEV) brands in the country and 3rd among Chinese NEV startups.

The monthly insurance volume of the XPeng P7 reached a record high of 6,096 units in July, representing a 254.6% year-on-year surge. The volume made the sport sedan rank 6th among China-made NEV models by July registrations, immediately following the Tesla Model 3 (6,601 units). A total of 5,570 P7s were registered by private users and 50 units were for car rental service.

As for regional performance, there were four cities recording P7 July registrations exceeding 500 units, namely Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. They are all among the tier-1 cities usually seen as China's largest and most developed urban metropolises. From the fifth to tenth places, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Wuhan were all provincial capital cities.

Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing, whose car parc all exceeded 4 million units by the end of June 2021, were all on the top 10 cities list for the P7.

Last month, the XPeng G3 had a registration volume of 1,609 in July, posting a 9.4% month-on-month decrease. Private users contributed to 81.3% of the July G3 registrations.

Guangzhou, where the startup is headquartered, also topped the other cities in China regarding the July registrations of the G3. Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen were still among the top 4 cities by G3 July registrations. Besides, Zhengzhou and Guiyang, capitals of Henan and Guizhou provinces, ranked fifth and eighth, while failing to enter the top 10 cities list for the P7.
