Car and City: October 2021 vehicle registrations in Beijing
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Beijing, capital of China, saw its insurance registrations of locally-made new vehicles fall 15.3% month over month in October, while new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 26% of the total volume.
Data from the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) showed that the city registered a total of 39,197 locally-made new vehicles in October, down by 15.3% compared with 46,304 vehicles of the previous month.
Volkswagen was the most registered vehicle brand in October in Beijing with monthly registrations less than 5,000 vehicles. On the top 10 brands list by October registrations, only two Chinese brands were there, BYD and Beijing.
By the total registrations of the first ten months of this year, BYD ranked second, outselling Toyota, Honda and BMW. But the number of local brands remained the same on the Jan.-Oct. list as October list.
All of the top 3 registered models in October in Beijing come from local brands while the other seven models are from foreign brands.
In October, a total of 10,166 NEVs were registered in Beijing, taking up 26% of Beijing’s total monthly volume. Battery electric vehicles were still the main contributor while the respective volume of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and extended-range electric vehicle was very close.
Among the top 10 NEV models by October registrations in Beijing, only one model comes from foreign brands, namely the Model Y. On the list, BYD has four models while two models come from local NEV startups, the XPeng P7 and the Li ONE.
