SAIC Motor’s Jan.-Apr. auto sales down 11.19% YoY, but NEV sales still up
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor announced today its monthly auto sales reached 166,552 units in April 2022, plunging 60.3% from the previous year.
All of its subsidiaries faced year-on-year downturn movement in April sales. Both SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM were hit by a sharp decrease of over 70%. SAIC-GM-Wuling outsold other subsidiaries, but it also recorded a double-digit decline over a year ago.
The monthly sales results show that SAIC Motor's NEV sales stood at 37,781 units last month, sliding 25.03% over the previous year. During the same month, the group saw its export volume and sales of overseas markets total 38,899 units, down 9.34% year over year.
For the first four months of the year, SAIC Motor's new vehicle sales shrank 11.19% compared to the same period of 2021. Despite the downturn in overall sales, the group still posted a 14.48% year-on-year growth in the year-to-date NEV sales, which amounted to 229,793 units.
SAIC Motor said today its complete vehicle firms are expected to return to normal production in mid-May on the premise of stable supply chain and logistics operations. This month, it will strive to reach the year-ago level in both vehicle production and sales volumes.
In 2022, SAIC Motor aims to achieve a year-on-year growth of over 10% with more than 6 million vehicles sold.
