Shanghai’s car parc surpasses 5 million vehicles by end of June 2022
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Shanghai’s motor vehicle parc reached 5.09 million units by the end of June this year, 4.51 million of which were automobiles.
In the first six months of 2022, Shanghai saw roughly 190,000 vehicles newly registered in the city, representing a 39.3% decline over a year ago with a 180,000-units difference. Notably, the new vehicle registration volume in the first three months of this year remained flat from the previous year, but took a downturn in April and May under the COVID-19 influence. However, with the market recovering, the monthly registration volume amounted to 30,000 vehicles in June.
By the end of June 2022, 710,000 units of Shanghai’s existing car parc were new energy vehicles, accounting for 15.74% of the total volume. With a parc of 380,000 vehicles, battery-electric vehicles accounted for 53.52% of the number of new energy vehicles currently running on roads in Shanghai.
In the first half of 2022, there were 85,692 new energy vehicles registered in Shanghai, 47,436 vehicles less than the earlier year, dropping 32.01% year over year. New energy vehicles took up 45.1% of Shanghai’s new vehicle registrations in the Jan.-Jun. period.
